Method
- Stir the oats, chia seeds, cinnamon and salt together in a bowl or two jars.
- Add the oat milk, yogurt, maple syrup and vanilla and stir thoroughly so no dry pockets of chia remain.
- Leave for 5 minutes, then stir again. This second stir stops the chia from clumping.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight.
- If using frozen berries, put them in a small bowl in the fridge at the same time so they thaw into a juicy compote.
- In the morning, loosen the oats with a splash of milk if they are too thick.
- Top with the berries and seeds and eat cold, or microwave for 1–2 minutes if you prefer it warm.
Tips, storage & swaps
Keeps for up to 4 days in sealed jars, so make a batch on Sunday. Use certified gluten-free oats and a gluten-free plant milk if you need it gluten-free. Swap the berries for grated apple and a pinch of nutmeg in winter, or stir in 1 tbsp cocoa powder for a chocolate version.
